The Riedel story
Founded in 1756 and still family-owned after 11 generations, Riedel marks its 270th anniversary in 2026. In the late 1950s, ninth-generation Claus J. Riedel recognized that the shape of a glass influences how we perceive a wine's aroma and taste. His Burgundy Grand Cru glass, designed in 1958, led to the handmade Sommeliers series in 1973, and grape-varietal-specific glassware has been Riedel's calling card ever since. Today the company is led by Georg J. Riedel (10th generation) and Maximilian J. Riedel (11th generation).
