Riedel Boa Decanter

The Riedel Boa Decanter (2013/01) was introduced in 2013 to mark the Year of the Snake. It was designed by Maximilian J. Riedel, who took inspiration from his travels across North and South America, the native home of the boa constrictor.

The decanter is made of tight serpentine coils. Wine poured into it is double decanted as it cascades through the coils, aerating it on the way in, and Riedel lists it as suitable for wines of all ages. It is made for one standard 750 ml bottle; pouring in front of guests shows off the way the wine moves through the shape.

Each piece is mouth-blown from crystal glass by Riedel's master glassblowers in its European workshops. Because the shape is formed by hand, no two decanters are exactly alike, and small variations in size, tiny bubbles or slight surface marks are a normal part of the process rather than defects. The decanter arrives in a RIEDEL-branded gift box.

Care: Hand wash only; this decanter is not dishwasher safe. Rinse it with clear water right after use, and do not use RIEDEL Bottle Cleaner or other cleaning beads, since Riedel notes the beads can become lodged and difficult to remove.
